Our joint Christmas concert

Sometime last year, one of our cellists Eddie Carden suggested that the Orchestra might like to have a joint concert with the Chelmsford Male Voice Choir this Christmas. Eddie is their Music Director and has recently returned to Maldon Orchestra after a break of a few years. After much discussion and many months later, the concert was held on Friday 7th December at the King Edward VI School in Chelmsford.

This was a multi charity concert with each group raising funds for their own nominated charity via ticket sales. The Orchestra proudly supports the Salvation Army at its Christmas concerts and was able to donate £500 from our ticket sales. Other charities involved included the RSPB, Kids Inspire and the Chelmsford Food Bank.

We played to an audience of approximately 330 people with 43 Orchestra members and 51 choristers. The audience were entertained by a packed programme which included classic Christmas tunes such as Let It Snow, the Coventry Carol and Silent Night from the Choir, an Overture to a Merry Christmas, Fairytale of New York and An Introduction & Fugue on a Christmas Carol from the Orchestra while they came together for the Hallelujah Chorus and the Sleigh Ride. Soloists Pedro Lopes and Kirsty Richards gave fabulous performances during the evening which included The Prayer. The audience, choir and orchestra came together for rousing renditions of The Twelve Days of Christmas and Hark the Herald Angels Sing accompanied by Sue Edwards from the Choir on piano.

This brings our year of concerts to a close having played seven throughout the year, playing to a total audience of 1,148 people and raising over £7,300 for local charities. Well done to everyone involved and thank you for your support.
