Joining forces across Essex

Greeting the honoured guests
Deputy Mayor of Colchester Beverley Oxford and her Escort, Gerard Oxford

On Sunday 23rd June forty-two Maldon Orchestra members performed a joint concert entitled 'Best of British' with the Colchester Military Wives Choir at King Edward VI Grammar School in Chelmsford in aid of SSAFA (the Armed Forces charity). This was a very formal concert in the presence of Deputy Lord Lieutenant Colonel Peter Christian OBE, the Deputy Mayor of Colchester, Beverley Oxford and her Escort, Gerard Oxford.

The audience were entertained by the Choir singing a variety of tunes including One Voice, Poppy Red and

A Thousand Years while the Orchestra under the baton of Music Director, Ron Bewers played a variety of patriotic and military tunes including Flower of Scotland, Land of My Fathers, National Airs of Great Britain and Colonel Bogey. Colin Bellett was on hand to add his vocal talents to the programme and joined the Choir and Orchestra for the finale with You’ll Never Walk Alone/Climb Every Mountain.

The event was supported by the Air Cadets who assisted with taking tickets and escorting audience members to their seats.

The event raised £1950 for SSAFA. Liz Mullen from BFBS radio added the finishing touch by compering for the event. Thanks go to everyone involved for such a successful concert.
