About Maldon Youth Orchestra

Maldon Youth Orchestra began in 2000 with the aim of providing an opportunity for young people of all abilities to make music together. We started with around 4 children and now regularly have in excess of 30 players at each rehearsal.

Maldon Youth Orchestra is an independent orchestra that wants to encourage as many young people to play music as possible. We arrange parts especially for the players that come along, so that beginners who can only play a few notes can play alongside advanced players.

Making music with MYO is fun. We aim to enjoy ourselves while continually improving our musical ability. We play familiar tunes as well as more serious classical pieces and will always consider suggestions from our members about what to play.

Any instrumentalists are welcome to come along. We regularly raise funds to purchase new and second-hand instruments and have had instruments donated, which we loan to members who wish to take on a new challenge. One recorder player switched to French Horn, another to bass guitar, a flautist to cello, a clarinet player to bass clarinet, a trumpet player to euphonium, a pianist and an electric guitarist to percussion.

Where do we rehearse?

Every Friday (except Christmas and August) between 6.30 and 7.30 at the URC Church, near the top of Market Hill in Maldon (see below!). It has parking space but it will help if most can park in the White Horse car park, behind the top of the High Street.

This is immediately before the Maldon Orchestra have their practice. We encourage more able players and parents to join them (see Old Fogies link on the Links page)

There is no need to register or audition - just turn up.
